David Haye And Tony Bellew Set To Re-Match In December 2017 At The O2 Arena
Boxing fans have witnessed some fantastic fights this year such as Manny Pacquiao vs. Jeff Horn, David Haye vs. Tony Bellew, Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor and GGG vs. Canelo Alvarez to name a few. They will get to see one more major fight in December as UK’s David Haye And Tony Bellew are set to re-match at London’s O2 Arena.
Haye Undergoes Surgery
The two British heavyweight fighters fought earlier this year in March 2017 at the O2 Arena and Bellew won the fight in the 11th round after Haye’s trainer Shane McGuigan threw in a towel to stop the fight. The 36 year old Hay had suffered an Achilles tendon rupture during the 6th round which hindered his movement significantly for the rest of the fight and Bellew took full advantage to punish Haye.
Since then, David Haye has had surgery on his Achilles tendon and has also parted ways with Shane McGuigan. The two sides began discussions about a possible rematch in July and after a lot of back and forth have finally come to an agreement. Hayes announced that he had signed the contract for a rematch to take place on December 17 at the O2 arena and is waiting on Bellew to sign.
Earlier this year, Haye dismissed talks of a possible rematch with Bellew stating that he had set his sights on Anthony Joshua. However it appears that Haye wants to have another shot at Bellew and see if he can make up for his loss. The two fighters engaged in a lot of trash talk during the lead up to the first fight as they both admitted that they don’t like each other. However after the fight, the two fighters showed a lot of respect for each other.
Bellew Expects KO In Second Fight
Bellew recently spoke to the media about David Haye and said that while he respects him as a fighter, he does not really like him as they are two different people. The 34 year old Bellew says that the two of them have not met since the fight and that it is highly unlikely that they will end up being friends as they had entirely different personalities.
Boxing fans would love to see the two of them step into the ring again as the first fight was great for boxing going into the 11th round. This time around, Bellew believes that the fight will be over a lot quicker as either one of them could land a knockout blow in the early rounds.
