Deontay Wilder, the WBC heavyweight champion steamrolled Bermane Stiverne on November 4th and finished him in the first round with a second left on the clock. Wilder successfully defended his belt and has called out WBA and IBF champion Anthony Joshua to step into the ring with him in the United Kingdom.
This is the fight that boxing fans want to see as 32 year old Wilder has had 39 professional fights till date and remains unbeaten. He has KO’d his opponents in 38 of his fights and is considered to be one of the best heavyweight boxers going around. Wilder represented the United States in the 2008 Olympics and finished as a bronze medallist but since then his reputation and skills have grown tremendously but his prize money and fame has not grown as much as Wilder would have liked.
Wilder who has the nickname of B-Ware is estimated to have a net worth of around $16 million. His recent fight against Stiverne is reported to have brought him around $1.4 million which is not a lot money considering the calibre of fighter that Wilder is. His previous fight against Gerald Washington in Feb 2017 brought him just $900k. B-Ware is looking for a bigger payday and more recognition for his skills and knows that a fight with British heavyweight Anthony Joshua will get him all of that.
Anthony Joshua is just 28 year old and has only 20 professional fights to his resume but his net worth and boxing paydays are a lot higher than Wilder. The British boxer is estimated to have a net worth in excess of $45 million and is considered to be the number one and most popular boxer in England.
Joshua’s last fight was against Carlos Takam on October 29 in front of 80,000 people in Wales. Joshua won the fight by a controversial stoppage in the 10th round and remains unbeaten. Heavyweight boxers are all lining up to challenge Joshua as they know it is the money fight and a chance for them to dethrone one of the best boxers in the world.
Wilder Willing To Fight In The UK
Deontay Wilder says that in his heart he knows that he is the best heavyweight in the world and wants to settle that for good by stepping into the ring with Anthony Joshua. Wilder has accused Joshua of ducking a fight with him and laid most of the blame on Eddie Hearn – Joshua’s promoter.
Wilder wants to fight Joshua so bad that he says although the Mecca of boxing is in Las Vegas, he is willing to travel to the UK and face Joshua in front of his home crowd and show the world that he is indeed the best. Wilder will have to put those plans on hold as his next mandatory fight will have to be against number one contender Dominic Breazeale.
Boxing fans remain hopeful that they will get to see a Deontay Wilder vs. Anthony Joshua fight in 18.
