Lewis Hamilton Will Target Mexico Grand Prix To Secure His Fifth F1 Championship Title
Lewis Hamilton did not disappoint his fans last Sunday at the U.S Grand Prix in Texas as he won comfortably and secured crucial points to take him very close to winning his fifth F1 Championship. The Brit was the favourite at the U.S Grand Prix and went on to win his 5th U.S Grand Prix on Sunday with rival Sebastian Vettel finishing in second place.
Hamilton Clinches U.S Grand Prix
Hamilton has been dominant at the U.S Grand Prix since 2012 and has won five out of the last six races held in Austin. Before the race, there was talk that Hamilton could win another F1 Championship in Austin but that meant Hamilton would have to win and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel would have to finish in sixth place or lower for Hamilton to secure enough points to claim the F1 Championship.
The British racing superstar took the pressure of himself by claiming his focus was only on winning the U.S Grand Prix and not on claiming the F1 championship as he had no control over where Sebastian Vettel would end up finishing. What Hamilton did have control over was to where he would end up finishing and he used his experience and control exceptionally well in Austin.
Sebastian Vettel did succeed in overtaking Hamilton during the opening lap but it was short lived as Hamilton soon regained the lead and then made sure that he was the first to pass he finishing line and secure the 25 points he needed to put himself within reach of winning another F1 Championship. The Brit said that he was surprised to see that Vettel did not do more to defend his lead. Hamilton has been in excellent form this season and it is now only a matter of time before he secures the additional points he needs to claim his championship.
Hamilton Says Austin Track Is His Favourite
Hamilton’s mother and brother wanted to be there in Austin, just in case things fell in place and he won the F1 championship. However with Vettel finishing in second place, it wasn’t to be but they were happy to see him lift another U.S. Grand Prix. The 32 year old Mercedes driver celebrated on the podium with Usain Bolt – the fastest man on the planet who handed him a pair of running shoes.
After winning the U.S. Grand Prix, Hamilton said that though the pressure was very intense, he continued to enjoy himself and felt that he could continue to push himself every time he got into the car. He heaped special praise on the Austin circuit and said that he considered it his favourite race track.
Hamilton does not have a lot of time to recover as the next F1 Grand Prix takes place in Mexico from Oct 27 to 29 and it is highly likely that Hamilton will secure the points he needs in Mexico to claim his fifth F1 Championship. If for some reason he fails to do so, he will another two more opportunities in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
